Youth Services

The specialized staff at Cross Pointe understands that children experience stressful situations and mental illnesses differently than adults. That’s why we have outpatient and inpatient services designed for youth ages 10 to 17.

Traditional Therapy/Counseling
Kids and teens struggling with life, family, school, or social interactions may benefit from talking to a licensed professional. Our providers meet one-on-one in a relaxed setting with kids and work to identify, understand and cope with the source of their distress. Common reasons to seek traditional therapy include:

  • Adolescent and child behavior problems
  • Anger management
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Blended family adjustment
  • Chemical dependency/addiction
  • Depression
  • Divorce
  • Marital/family conflict
  • Parent-child communication
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Sexual, physical or emotional abuse

Medication Management
We offer outpatient medication consultations with our psychiatry staff including psychiatrists, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists. These experts are trained in assessment and medication management for a variety of behavioral health conditions.
During a medication consultation, the psychiatric practitioner will review medication history, allergies, medical conditions, current symptoms, length and severity of symptoms, family history, and other information to develop a full understanding of how the condition affects your child. Based on the evaluation findings, the practitioner will determine if medication would be helpful and make recommendations for the appropriate type of treatment.

Inpatient Services for Youth

Inpatient treatment is appropriate for people experiencing severe mental health symptoms, thoughts of or attempts to harm themselves or others, and those needing medical detox services.

To be admitted at Cross Pointe, patients must have an evaluation with a CARE Team member and meet inpatient admission criteria.

Evaluations may be completed for a child of any age and referrals will be made for the most appropriate service. Deaconess Cross Pointe will never turn away a child or family in crisis without providing case management, referral services, and a safe place for the child.

Call the Deaconess Cross Pointe CARE Team at 812-476-7200 or toll free at 800-947-6789 to schedule an evaluation.

Inpatient Hospitalization
Our inpatient program for youth ages 10 – 17 provides the support and treatment necessary to relieve severe symptoms, eliminate suicidal/homicidal thoughts, or prepare for addiction recovery.
Care is provided in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment by a team of psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, social workers, activity therapists, mental health technicians, and when indicated, chemical dependency counselors.

The treatment team emphasizes positive self-esteem, individual responsibility, problem solving skills, and coping skills throughout all areas of programming. Our Cross Pointe staff members work together to complete specific evaluations of underlying medical, psychological, social and family issues. The team develops a plan of care to stabilize the symptoms that led to hospitalization and creates a path to partial hospitalization, outpatient programs, or discharge for the patient. The length of stay on this unit varies based on each patient's need.
