An alarming increase in the number of nursing vacancies across the country has greatly impacted the delivery of health care. Deaconess is taking multiple steps to find solutions to the issues that were heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the solutions is teaming up with the Deaconess Foundation to
create a robust nursing scholarship program for future nurses to work at Deaconess.
The Deaconess Foundation has awarded Deaconess Nursing Scholarships in the amount of $136,000 this year to support 22 new scholarships for local college students pursuing nursing as a profession. In 2022, $75,000 was awarded.
Jennifer Chiusano, Deaconess Senior VP and Chief Nursing Executive, said, “The Deaconess Foundation is essential to our future of nursing by providing scholarships to student nurses in our communities. The Deaconess Foundation has and continues to be an outstanding support to Deaconess Health System by ensuring we will have nurses to care for our patients”.
The 22 scholarship recipients were awarded $8,000, $6,000 or $4,000. With this scholarship, the recipients also make a commitment to work at Deaconess upon graduation.
