- Procedures are an important part of Family Medicine.
- Residents are encouraged to do procedures throughout their clinical training.
- Most preceptors will allow residents to do procedures including intubations, placing central lines, joint injections, suturing and much more.
- Residents are required to become competent in the following procedures by graduation.

- Endometrial Biopsy
- Eye Fluorescein Exam
- I&D of Abscess
- Immobilization and Stabilization of Orthopedic Injuries
- Injection and Aspiration of Joints

- Pap Smear
- Simple Laceration Repair with Sutures
- Skin Biopsies – Punch, Excisional and Shave
- Toenail and Foreign Body Removal
- Wet Mount
- Artificial Rupture of Membranes
- Fetal Scalp Electrode Placement
- Intrauterine Pressure Catheter Placement
- Tympanometry
- Colposcopy
- Circumcision (Conscientious objection policy applies)
- Non-stress Test
- Spirometry Interpretation
- UA with Microscopy
