The new Deaconess Clinic Downtown will feature 100,000 square feet of clinic and office space, including primary and specialty care and a new Deaconess Clinic EXPRESS.  The IU School of Medicine – Evansville will occupy 10,000 square feet for clinical research; The Vision Care Center will also be leasing space in the new building. Patients and employees will also have access to covered parking in the adjacent parking garage, located on Locust Street, which will be connected to the new building via an enclosed pedestrian bridge. 
 
“This modern building has been designed with patient needs—and great patient care—in mind,” said Dr. Allen White, Vice President, Chief Physician Administrative Officer, Deaconess Clinic. “It’s an exciting time to be part of what’s happening in downtown Evansville, particularly here in the developing medical district. I know that many of our physicians and staff are looking forward to teaching opportunities and other collaboration with students and faculty from the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences.” 

The dedicated clinical research space for IU School of Medicine – Evansville will be partially funded by $9 million from the Regional Cities Initiative.  “This embedded research project, made possible, in part, by Regional Cities funding, will enhance southwestern Indiana’s presence regionally and nationally, through both the future developments that it will stimulate and the medical talent that it will attract,” said Beth McFadin Higgins, President of the Southwest Indiana Regional Development Authority.
 
“By investing in quality of place initiatives, Indiana is building on regional efforts throughout the state to create vibrant destinations where people choose to live, work and play,” said Elaine Bedel, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. “With this embedded clinical research facility inside Deaconess Clinic Downtown, the IU School of Medicine-Evansville will gain a major asset in developing new health care technologies and attracting top talent to southwest Indiana, while the region will have another economic and cultural amenity contributing to the growth and vibrancy of the downtown Evansville area.”
 
The new Deaconess Clinic Downtown is expected to open in the spring of 2020.  The current Deaconess Clinic Downtown building is leased; the owners have not yet announced future plans for the space.
