EVANSVILLE, IN - Deaconess Health System’s Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Deaconess Care Integration (DCI), has received the highest quality score for Performance Year 2020 from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) among the 37 Next Generation ACOs in the Model. DCI was the only Next Generation ACO to receive a perfect quality score for the year.

For Performance Year 2020, CMS ranked ACOs on 13 measures, including multiple cancer screenings, immunizations, reduction in hospital readmissions, and management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

As announced by CMS on October 21, 2021, DCI also generated shared savings for the 5th consecutive year. A key component of shared savings is the coordination of care, helping patients receive the right care at the right time, and avoiding duplication of services.

Deaconess Health System was also recognized as the number two hospital in Indiana by U.S. News & World Report--for the fourth time in a row--earlier this year, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to quality in all aspects of patient care.

“It’s our patients and communities who benefit most due to this highest-quality, collaborative, wrap-around care,” said James Porter, MD, FAAP, FACHE, President, Deaconess Health System. “Every physician and clinical team who participates in DCI does so to help close gaps in care, ensuring that patients receive needed preventive care, management of chronic disease, and services that improve their quality of life.”

Specific patient profiles are available for feature stories. These patient perspectives can help demonstrate the effectiveness of the care management offered by DCI providers.

Deaconess Care Integration
Deaconess Health System’s Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Deaconess Care  Integration (DCI), is committed to designing and implementing clinical programs that will result in achieving the ‘Triple Aim’ objectives of providing better care for the individuals we serve, better health for the populations we care for, and doing so in a financially sustainable manner.

In 2012, Deaconess Health System launched a new ACO, Deaconess Care Integration (DCI), to join the  Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). Working closely with its operational partner, Evolent Health,  Deaconess Care Integration then launched a Next Generation ACO in January 2016.

In its first year as a Next Generation ACO in 2016, Deaconess Care Integration was one of the top five-
performing Next Generation ACOs based on shared savings. Deaconess improved upon their performance in  2017 by receiving the second highest amount of shared savings among all Next Generation ACOs. This year,  DCI entered its sixth year in the Next Generation ACO Model and currently serves more than 14,000 Medicare  beneficiaries through its ACO.
