Chaplain Services

Faith practices and traditions are unique for every patient and family. During your time at Deaconess, our staff can provide you with a variety of resources and services that fit best with your practice.

Chaplain Visits
A chaplain is available to meet with patients or family members 24 hours per day, seven days per week at Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Deaconess Henderson Hospital and The Women's Hospital.

Health care chaplains are specially trained to handle end-of-life situations, patients who receive a serious diagnosis as well as those who are struggling with questions of faith. Here are a few examples of why you might want to call a chaplain:

  • You wish to speak to a caring person.
  • You would like help contacting your church or religious community.
  • You would like support for a friend or family member.
  • You feel anxious or upset about a situation.
  • You would like communion, prayer or the Sacrament of the Sick.
  • You would like prayer before a surgery or procedure.
Chapel
There is a chapel at all four campuses. The chapel is open to anyone at any time. Feel free to use this space for meditation, prayer or quiet reflection.

Chapel Services
Special seasonal chapel services, like Easter and Christmas, are held at Deaconess Midtown Hospital and Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

Daily Devotionals
Daily devotionals, written by clergy in the community, are provided each morning on meal trays. If you do not receive a devotional, please contact us so that we can provide one to you.

Prayer Request
A prayer book is available outside the chapel at Deaconess Midtown Hospital and Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Our chaplains will offer a prayer for those listed in the book.

Publications and Reading Materials
Bibles may be requested by contacting your nurse or the Spiritual Care office. Sacred writings from other faith groups are available by contacting the Spiritual Care office.
